Achilles tendonitis is one of the most common running injuries and one of the longest lasting injuries (months to years). It is therefore important to diagnose and start treatment as soon as possible. The symptoms are seen in both children and adults.
It is important to rule out (partial) ruptures and other diagnoses in the area that require different treatment. Sudden throbbing in the Achilles tendon region should prompt a medical examination. Occasionally, pain from the back of the ankle may be perceived as Achilles tendon pain.
