Ankle joints are frequently damaged during running and contact sports, where the ligaments on the outside of the foot in particular can overstretch and rupture. Not infrequently, fractures occur in the ankle region with damage to the ankle joint itself.
However, there are also many overuse injuries from tendons and ligaments around the ankle joint. As with all injuries, early diagnosis and proper rehabilitation are important for the duration of the injury.
